Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies

Today we took our first field trip of the school year. Discounted homeschool tickets are our new friend! We learned about piranhas, sharks & my favorite seadragons. There is no way  you can visit an aquarium & not stand in awe of what a creative God we have. Which then always leads to the best discussions about our Creator as well as his creations. Lotus was like a sponge today & was really playing the part of homeschool student well. I hope she always looks on the world with such excitement. Killian, although ever the teenage boy, begged to go around just one more time. I think he could have stayed there all day. Sadly we moved on to dinner & a quick drive through the mountains. Now its bedtime; good night!

P.S.  Thanks to Kim & Ron for coming along for the ride & covering the kids tickets. You saved us some money & added to the kids fun. Love ya!!

Yes, this is learning!

Were sitting right now watching "Man, Woman vs Wild" with the kids. I love that there are shows that we can watch as a family & learn something as well. The best part is all the questions they ask. Shows like this get them thinking. So far we've learned that you can boil water in a plastic bottle over a fire without the plastic melting & that you can use glasses to start a fire. They explained it, but the kids were interested in excactly how so we will look it up later. Plus we will do a little experiment of our own. Killian wants to know if it would burn your hand if it can start a fire. Not really sure how were going to test that without a trip to the emergency room. We've also learned about various snakes of the Lousiana bayou.Amazingly there are 54 species in the LA swamps, 7 are venomous. Not really bad considering its a swamp. So I know for most people this might not seem like learning, but its not just about learning facts. Its about inspiring a love of learning. Also considering we like to spend time in the great outdoors you never know when we might need a little survivor know how. Now showing.... "Man, Woman, Children vs Wild".

The Homeschool Hub......

This is where the magic happens or at least where I hope it will.

Last night as I planned this years curriculum (which I have yet to finsih) I realized I needed some place to put all the info. Kinda of like our home base. This is the place the kids can get to their favorite links, mom can get to our schedule & journal about our day. It's also going to act as the information page for family & friends. It sounds absolutely wonderful doesnt it? Now lets just see if Im computer savvy enough to manage doing that somehow. I already realized I do not have the know with all to start a website which I would love to do at some point in the future. For now this will have to suffice & since this is where the Mighty Masters Academy will be conducting all their business it will be boring. Or at least business like. I gotta keep up with all that info, you know?!

So welcome to the Mighty Masters Academy home page which is currently under construction.
